Walk-ins welcome
Compounding Prescriptions

Who it's for

Patients who have been prescribed a compounded medication — a custom dose, an allergen-free version, or a non-tablet form.

What we can help with

  • Pediatric formulations — liquid suspensions, often in flavours kids will actually take.
  • Custom dose strengths — when the commercial strength doesn’t match what you’ve been prescribed.
  • Topical preparations — pain creams, hormone creams, dermatology bases.
  • Allergen-free versions — lactose-free, gluten-free, dye-free, preservative-free.
  • Veterinary compounded prescriptions — bring your vet’s script and we’ll help.
  • Hormone replacement — preparations made to your prescriber’s formula.

If you’ve been told a medication is unavailable in its commercial form, call us. We can usually help.

How it works

  1. Get a prescription from your doctor, nurse practitioner, or vet.
  2. Drop off the script in person, or have your prescriber send it to us.
  3. Call us with any questions — pricing, timing, insurance coverage, anything.
  4. We’ll confirm a firm pickup time when we accept the prescription.
  5. Pick up your prescription with usage and storage details.

What it costs

Compounded medications are priced based on ingredients, complexity, and preparation time. We quote the price before anything is prepared, so there are no surprises. If you have a private drug plan, we’ll provide the documentation most plans require for reimbursement.

Frequently asked

Common questions about compounding prescriptions.

What is compounding?
Compounding is when a pharmacist creates a medication from individual ingredients — a custom dose, an alternate form (cream, gel, troche, liquid), or a formulation that removes an allergen (lactose-free, gluten-free, dye-free). It's prepared from scratch, not pulled from a stocked bottle.
Do I need a prescription?
Yes — compounded medications require a prescription from a licensed prescriber (doctor, nurse practitioner, dentist, or veterinarian). Bring it in or have your prescriber send it to us and we'll take it from there.
How long does it take?
Turnaround depends on the preparation and ingredient availability. We'll give you a firm pickup time when we accept the prescription. Call us with the specifics and we'll let you know.
Is it covered by my insurance?
Many private drug plans cover compounded medications, though some require pre-authorization. We provide detailed receipts with ingredient breakdowns that most plans accept. OHIP does not typically cover compounding fees.
Can you handle veterinary compounded prescriptions?
Yes — bring your vet's prescription in and we'll help you sort out the details. Vet-specific prescription services from our pharmacy are coming soon as a dedicated offering.
