June in Markham is good. The weather cooperates, school schedules start to loosen, and kids need things to do that don’t involve a screen. If you’re looking for something free, local, and actually worthwhile this month, we have something worth marking on the calendar.
On Thursday, June 26, we’re hosting a free outdoor creativity day right in front of 2 Care Pharmacy on Bur Oak Avenue in Cornell. It runs from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, everything is free, and there’s no sign-up required. Just show up.
What’s there for kids
The activity tables will have:
Colouring sheets — large-format pages with animals, nature scenes, patterns, and simple illustrations. We’ll have a variety so there’s something for every age, from toddlers who want to scribble to older kids who want to fill in detail. Coloured pencils and crayons both available.
Clay sculpting — air-dry clay in a full range of colours, with rolling tools and simple shape guides. This is genuinely messy and genuinely fun. Kids can make whatever they want — no instructions, no expected outcome, no right answer. We’ll have a hand-washing station on site.
Colouring and craft supplies to take home — we’ll have extras so kids can bring something back if they want to keep working on it.
There’s no program, no schedule, and no “now everyone sits down and listens” moment. The three hours are open. Stay for twenty minutes or stay for two hours. The point is for kids to have something to do with their hands while the neighbourhood gathers.
Why it’s free
Because we think community should be free.
2 Care Pharmacy is an independent pharmacy — not a chain. We opened in Cornell because we wanted to be part of this neighbourhood, not just a service inside it. Hosting a free afternoon for families is our way of showing up for the community that shows up for us.
There’s no hidden pitch. Your kids make things, you maybe meet someone you hadn’t met, and one of our pharmacists is around if anyone has a question about a prescription or a health service. That’s it.
Good for which ages?
Honestly, most ages.
Toddlers (2–4): The chunky crayons and clay are well-suited for small hands. The outdoor setting means you don’t have to worry about containing them. Supervision required but the activity is age-appropriate.
Kids 5–10: The sweet spot. Colouring sheets have enough complexity to hold their attention, clay is satisfying and open-ended, and there’s enough novelty to keep things interesting for the full visit.
Preteens: Some will engage, some won’t, depending on the kid. The activity is low-pressure enough that they can participate without feeling like they’re being corralled into a “kids activity.”
Adults and seniors: We’ve had interest from people who just want to sit outside, make something with their hands, and talk to people. That’s perfectly welcome. There’s no age floor or ceiling.
Where exactly, and where to park
We’re at 3028 Bur Oak Avenue in the Cornell neighbourhood of Markham — on the south side of Bur Oak, just west of the Cornell Community Centre. Free parking is available directly in front of the pharmacy. The event will be set up on the sidewalk and small parking area immediately in front of our entrance.
If you’re coming by transit or on foot: the area is walkable from most of Cornell’s residential streets.
Can we bring friends?
Yes. Please. The more, the better. Forward this post, share on a WhatsApp group, tell the neighbours. This is a neighbourhood event and it gets better the more neighbours show up.
Rain plan
We’ll move indoors if the weather requires it. The pharmacy has enough space to host a scaled version inside. We’ll post any weather changes on our social channels the morning of June 26.
