What this topic covers
Blood pressure (BP) measures how hard your blood is pushing against the walls of your arteries. When it stays high over time, it can put strain on your heart, kidneys, and blood vessels. The good news: catching it early and managing it consistently makes a big difference, and most of that management happens between doctor visits — at home, at the pharmacy, in your daily routine.
How we can help
- Free blood pressure checks in-store. Drop in any time during open hours. Three readings, a printout if you’d like, and a short conversation about what the numbers mean.
- Home monitor recommendations. We carry validated home BP monitors and can show you how to use one correctly — cuff position, time of day, what to record. Most readings people get at home are wrong because of how they’re taken, not because the device is broken.
- Medication review (MedsCheck). If you’re on BP medications, we’ll go through them with you — what each one does, when to take it, what to do if you miss a dose, how to handle side effects, what interacts with what.
- Lifestyle conversation. We won’t lecture you. But if you want to talk about how diet, alcohol, sleep, stress, and exercise factor in — without judgment — we’re here for it.
- Coordination with your doctor. If your readings concern us or change suddenly, we’ll flag it to your prescriber. If you don’t have a family doctor, we’ll point you to options.
When to come see us — and when to call your doctor
Come see us if: you want a free BP check, your home readings look different from what you expected, you’ve just been prescribed a new BP medication, or you’d like a MedsCheck of your current meds.
Call your doctor or visit urgent care if: you have severe headache, chest pain, shortness of breath, confusion, or vision changes alongside very high readings (180/120 or above) — these can be signs of a hypertensive emergency.
We are not a substitute for your family doctor. We’re the layer in between that helps you stay on top of things day to day.
